Quench Campaign – Bendigo Launch

View our Ballarat Launch

On November 22 nd & 23 rd Quench launched its revolutionary water-saving Quench shower cubicle in the main mall of Bendigo. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all attendees for their involvement and feedback, from political, media and corporate representatives through to the incredibly supportive general community.

Bendigo is in a crisis of a major water shortage. We were told that there may be as little as 25 weeks of water left, or that the supply may dry up in September 2007. Either way, this region truly needs solutions to overcome its WATER CRISIS!! It is entering an emergency period.

We would especially like to thank the following people for their involvement or participation:

Media:

  • ABC Radio – Quench welcomes interviews such as that provided with the ABC, as this is a channel which we can truly target a large audience of listeners who understand how critical the issue of water conservation is, especially throughout rural Australia.
    ABC Radio
  • Star FM – Much of the community came down as a result of Star FM publicising the event and encouraging people to come down and see how they can play a major role in solving the problem. Thanks to Shaun and Deb Picolo
    Star FM
  • Prime TV – Thanks to Jo for positive comments on Television.
  • Southern Cross TV – Came to look at the unit, and expressed interest in its benefits.
    Southern Cross TV
  • The Advertiser – We are also grateful to this local newspaper for its involvement, by promoting the launch in a half page spread in the paper. Much to the surprise of the onlookers, Brendan McCarthy enthusiastically persuaded one of the Quench team to pose for a photo in the mall whilst showering inside the cubicle. Thankfully, he was wearing shorts, and on a hot day, this seemed a welcome relief!!

Corporate:

  • Bendigo Bank – In order to purchase environmentally friendly products such as the Quench water saving shower cubicle, Australians need to realise that some banks do promote such purchases through either green rebates or discounted interest rates. We appreciate the interest shown by Bendigo Bank, and encourage you to ask them and other banks if they offer special benefits if you use their finance to purchase the unit.

Feedback Corner:

“Unbelievable!! … It’s so simple. Why has no-one thought of it before now!!?”

“Fantastic!! My wife has literally been making me shower with buckets of water for the last three months!”

“It’s obviously more expensive, but there’s so much more to it. Given that it’s a complete shower unit which recirculates, pumps, and heats the water, the water savings seem well worth it”.

“This is brilliant! You should get this on the Sunrise show with Koshy & Mel”

“We have already contacted Sunrise, and are waiting on them to let us know if we can get on their show to discuss water conservation on a National basis. You can do your part by emailing them your comments at www.yahoo7.com.au/sunrise. Why not ask to see Grant or Koshy showering in the main strip mall of Bendigo (in ‘Speedos’ of course)!”

“We have 6 in our family. Our average shower is around 10 minutes, but we already have a water-saving shower head. So how can this assist us?”

“Given that the average water saving shower head will use roughly 10 litres per minute, you currently use around 219,000 litres per year in your shower. A Quench shower would result in you using only around 25 litres per person per day, which equates to roughly 54,750 litres each year. This is a saving of roughly 164,250 litres per year (75% less).”

“That’s incredible!! We find it so hard to limit the time our children spend in the shower, and this means we don’t have to monitor the length of each and every shower, yet only consume a fraction of the amount of water”.

“We have an RV / Winnebago, and get sick of pulling over at Caravan parks to shower. We have heard of people that have showers in larger more expensive RVs, but they either have to take incredibly short showers, or need to fill their tank with water after almost every day of usage. Could this be installed in an RV?

“Yes. We are currently approaching RV manufacturers about this, and suggest that if purchasing an RV, you should call us with the details of your preferred manufacturer so that we can arrange for a suitable installation for you. This allows you to pull over anywhere on your holiday to shower at your leisure”.

“We are farmers. Our water tanks are getting low, and our water pressure is terrible. How suitable would this be for us?”

“Even where people have tank water, these storage levels are also becoming depleted, due to the low levels of rainfall. Quench will help them conserve the rain water that they collect. Also, mains water pressure is not so strong in many rural areas. To combat this, the Quench has its own dedicated water pump (when in auto-mode), allowing for constant pressure (and constant heat from its internal heating system).”

“Fantastic, It’s nice to hear that installation is easy, and that we have GreenPlumbers in the area to help if anything goes wrong”.

“What else can we do to help?”

“Favour water-conscious businesses. We have been astonished to see that it is not mandatory to have at least a water-saving shower head in local Bendigo hotels & motels. When people stay at these locations, it is our estimate that people average closer to 20 minute showers due to the fact that they expect a relaxation experience when away from home. Remember, these are regularly used by out-of-towners who often don’t realise how serious the water crisis is in rural areas.

Example:

If a hotel shower has a pre-water saving shower head (using 20 litres per minute), and is used twice a day for 365 days (20 minutes each time), that shower will use nearly 300,000 litres of water each year. This figure could be halved with a water-saving shower head, and could be minimised to less than 20,000 litres per year with a Quench shower system. So encourage your local businesses to be responsible with their level of water consumption.
